I was excited. The moment I left the building and the shoes touched concrete, I knew "this" was about to change my running. In the past months, I had mixed feelings about this shoe—mainly because the shoe was made for elites and not necessarily for a 4-hr marathon runner like me. In the last year, something else happened though. Coming off the NYC marathon, I jumped right back into XC season and then into a head-to-head (leg-to-leg ha?!) competition with chelseabeasley—who can run more miles in December—it left me injured and I learned my lesson. I took January and February to recover. March and April, you saw me building back for the shorter distances, 5Ks here and there. In May, I ran my 3rd and strongest half marathon, the Brooklyn Half which started in front of my house. In June, paavozatopek took me through my first run to paradise aka Rockaway beach, summer was in full swing and July was about readjusting and refocusing. I believe I twisted my ankles 3 times. Back to the Lunar Epics and no more sandals. In August, I was able to reconnect with my body and my roots. Ran through the woods of Germany and my first 50mi, a sweet and necessary change for my learnings as a runner. Back in the States, our team accomplished the 24-hour adventure called Hood to Coast and in early September, I ran my fastest 20K with these 4%s, giving me an idea of how this Sunday—my 2nd marathon—could look like. I believe I have changed as a runner and I made small daily choices to get to where I am today. I feel better about wearing this shoe now, respecting the sport and the work and maybe these 4%s are just the right tool to live the dream. To the squad blackrosesnyc and dear friends for the belief and encouragement, this race will be for you! 🙏🏾
4 days 'till the Berlin Marathon 2017!
