Sándor LauSándor Lau2017-10-20In the right light, at the right time of day, you can almost imagine the Columbia River Gorge, the Great River of the West, just as it appeared when human eyes first beheld it. https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/22637388_1973461436230892_7844326843485257728_n.jpg2017-10-20
HueyHuey2017-10-19Done with shaping the two halfs of the Greenland paddle... Ok somehow broke the electric planer and had to chisel and manual plane, but turned out ok. There was a big hole in one due to a stubborn nail which I had to drill out. Taking a rest.... before thinking about the connector....!. firsttimegreenlandpaddlewoodworkinghandtoolkayakingnogaragereclaimedwoodmistakesgalorehttps://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/22638609_182719902298617_5622722337813037056_n.jpg2017-10-19

Now time for an evening paddle and some beers. https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/22500381_443404246053848_5279627104529416192_n.jpg2017-10-16

Grant MaddockGrant Maddock2017-10-11My commute past this industrial monster. The big river squeezes through a small hard gap here. So does everything else. It stinks of sulphur and shit. The zinc factory disgorges its cooling water into the river, and out through steam plumes into the air. They sting the skin and eyes. The shit comes from the various treatment plants and travels as a thin oily film on the surface. I can usually avoid these, but not today. Returning through here as the sun set, I had 25knot headwinds against a strong flood tide. Confused breaking waves rebounding off structures created crazy survival conditions!
The moomairremener people used to catch crayfish and abalone here in the abundant kelp beds. For more than 40 000 years they'd have used this narrow point to cross in unique bundled and bound watercraft. I pay my respects to those before us and those to follow.
