Both are high in antioxidants, fibre, magnesium and iron; both have that rich, chocolatey taste; both have similar names and both look kinda the same. So, what is the difference?
Simply put, cacao is cool 😎 cocoa is hot 🔥
Cacao powder is made by either cold-pressing or gently heating the cacao bean at a low temperature. This removes the cocoa butter and dries the bean out. Whatever is left is miller to the powder we have as cacao.
Cocoa is made by roasting the beans at a high temperature and then milling them to the powder. The higher temperature gives it a slightly sweeter taste, however also lowers the nutritional content.
So, if you’re looking for a bittersweet chocolate fix that also carries a bomb of healthy nutritionals then go for CACAO!
If you want a sweeter choccy taste and don’t mind sacrificing a tiny bit of mineral then go for COCOA!
And if you don’t like chocolate, go to a doctor because I think your tastebuds may be broken 😂
