The TwinchettsThe Twinchetts2017-10-20Before Hannah and I started this page we both agreed we'd be open and honest about everything that would happen through our journey with premature twins, whether it's good or bad. Well, this is the bad.
Pippa is very poorly. Her liver has started to fail, she's got many anomalies in her blood and a ventilator is breathing for her. The doctors have been working incredibly hard to diagnose exactly what's wrong with her, there always seems to be one symptom that doesn't fit the bill. They've finally found out the cause is a common virus called CMV. Although its common, it's particularly dangerous in preterm babies. It's attacked her liver, spleen and lungs - and in some cases it can be fatal.
She's on phototherapy for her jaundice, she's been on different antibiotics, countless different types of medicine, morphine, adrenaline, you name it... She's had it. Now we know what the root cause of her illness is, her treatment is beginning tonight - she's also just starting her third blood transfusion since yesterday. It will take quite some time for her to be well enough to come home. She needs to turn a corner and start improving soon. We're all very concerned for her health.
The virus Pippa has contracted can be passed quite easily, and it's highly likely Penny has been exposed to it too - so her bloods have been taken as a precaution to make sure there's nothing brewing inside of her. Until we know, we're keeping Penny under a watchful eye, and limiting her contact with anyone other than me or Hannah.
Thank you for all the messages of love and support we've received so far. We appreciate it. We'll probably have a bit of radio silence now while we channel our thoughts and energy in to Pippa.
Ian & Hannah x

The TwinchettsThe Twinchetts2017-10-19These two photos are of how today started, and ended.
Today is Evelyn's 4th birthday. She's growing up fast, and she's someone we're so proud of. Sure, she has her meltdowns and tantrums, what kid doesn't? But she's so smart, funny, and beautiful. She's the perfect big sister. We've said it several times, but the way she's handled all of this change, and sometimes difficult situations is incredible.
She got a shiny bike with pom pom handle bars today, and she LOVES it. She rode it all the way to nursery, and I had to carry it all the way back... Not good.
After I dropped Evelyn at nursery the day took a turn for the worse. Pippa was a bit off it over night, but this morning she nose dived. She had another "episode". But this time it seems much worse. I got back home, and Hannah was already set to go to hospital. We took the girls down to the Leeds General Infirmary. I dropped Hannah off at the doors with Pippa, while Penny and I went to find some parking. 20 minutes later we catch up, and follow Hannah's text message instructions... Children's A&E, Room 16. I get there, the rooms empty. "Oh, they were here, I'll just find out where they've gone". A minute or so later, "They've been moved in to resuss"... Did I hear that right? Yes I did. Penny and I got rushed round the corner, I find Hannah in bits. I park up, get Penny out and give her a feed she was overdue. Pippa is on a little bed, surrounded by doctors. More doctors arrive, more nurses, anaesthetist, consultants... Soon enough there's 25+ people in the room all rushing around for our tiny little baby. All I could think was "this isn't good". I put Penny back in to her carry cot, and find out what's happening. Pippa is very poorly. Her liver and spleen are enlarged and causing issues with her breathing. Her blood levels are all over the place, and needs an emergency transfusion. She's also put on a ventilator and is sedated to relax her body. (post continued below)

But that never stopped me from thriving each day. So today is a big day for me and my parents!!! I scored above and beyond on my tests!!!😁👏 My developmental team was very happy because I have come so far. And now it’s time to say thank you and good bye to them. Bitter sweet, but that just mean I am ready to conquer the world😅😅😅😊 (Left Pic: April 15, 2016; Right Pic: Today October 18, 2017) 👶🏻➡️👧🏻 mariannefrancheskaexmicropreemieex25weekerpreemiestrongachievementsproudparentsthrivepreemiepowerpreemielifetoddlersofinstagraminfanttotoddlertoddlerlifetoddlerfashion
2017-10-18Playing nurse, he's taught me so much about life already. Him and I have been through the hardest things ive ever been faced with. And we continue to grow stronger everyday on this journey. Gunnar has been sick almost 4 weeks now, catching a second virus that put us back in the e.r., monitoring him and found at this point he needs little steroid treatments and Albuterol to help his lungs and airways while he fights the congestion. When a preemie gets a cold they don't handle it the way full term babies do. This has been long and tough keeping an eye on his sympotms making sure it doesn't progress into something worse and making sure his breathing is ok while he fights through this. Many sleepless nights but I doing better now that he is being treated at home . Grateful for the team of specialists at ucdavis pediatrics pulmonology and cardiology who assessed him this week and decided he did need a little more support then " he has a cold, he just needs to fight it ". Feeling understood and supported du in this tough season . preemielifepreemiegraduatelifesjourneyGunnarDaniellittlewarriormovingmountainsboymommomofthreenicumomhttps://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/22581805_124467254977326_630437131025645568_n.jpg2017-10-18

Jess GonzalezJess Gonzalez2017-10-16Around 1am last night, I had a conversation with my sweet friend Becky. She had a suggestion to help our very unhappy baby with an explanation that made perfect sense. That one simple change has given us a completely different baby today. She’s been peaceful, smiley, cooing and even napping! This weary mommy is beyond thankful for a friend at odd hours of the night to help and support through this journey. 💛 ittakesavillagepreemieproblemspreemielifehttps://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/22499968_406196676449808_3218614819078799360_n.jpg2017-10-16
