5110345725110345722018-07-12Before we came to Nepal, we had the opportunity to chat with the staff of the sewing center who employ women who have overcome human trafficking. This is what they told us: “We treat them like they are our daughters. We ask ourselves, ‘would we want this for our daughters?’ ‘would we want this for our sisters? That’s how we treat them.”
If you’re new to the fashionrevolution, it is the idea that we should be invested in knowing whomademyclothes — that we should care that the workers are treated with dignity, are paid fairly and are valued for the products they produce. After all, fashion is a universal language, a form of expression, and an industry we all use at some point.
Our trip intersected with one of the girl’s birthdays, and we saw firsthand the celebration and the joy that someone experiences who has hope for a new year of life. We saw her loved and surrounded like a daughter, like a sister.
That is why our dressember dress line exists — for hopeful and redeemed birthdays, for dignified jobs, and for new opportunities. That is why itsbiggerthanadress 💛 https://scontent-amt2-1.cdninstagram.com/vp/3d5ba8d98d95567b9d851c25a4214071/5BE31943/t51.2885-15/e35/36657669_1845785869050093_7932507547183874048_n.jpg2018-07-12
867552286755222018-07-12When I created Dressember in 2009, I had no idea it would be something anyone else would want to be a part of. I had no idea it would become a campaign and fundraising powerhouse. When I took what felt like a risky step of turning Dressember the Style Challenge into the Campaign (and then the 501(c)3 Foundation), I had no idea we would be able to partner with survivors/overcomers of trafficking to create dignified jobs at fair pay through an annual dress collection. After 4 years of partnering with elegantees, I’ve watched our collection grow, the demand for ethical apparel grow, and our impact multiply.
It is surreal to now get to visit the women and men who bring our collection to actuality, to see their passion for the work and their love for one another. They have become a family—both figuratively and literally, as two of their staffers recently married each other(!)—and their work reflects their joy and their pride in the company.
In September, we will launch our biggest dress collection yet: 8 styles designed by 8 different women. I am SO EXCITED to share some sneak peeks with you over the coming days and weeks!

5110345725110345722018-07-12The Dressember team made it safely to Nepal! Today we had the opportunity to meet the women working at the elegantees sewing center who bring our Dressember dress collection to life. These women are brave overcomers of human trafficking, but more than anything they’re fun and bright girls who join in our shared love of Instagram story filters & dresses with pockets.
Take a peek at our IG story for a glimpse into the sewing center (we threw in a few Dressember dress line sneak peeks for ya as well!)

5110345725110345722018-07-07Fear can act as a chain holding you in a place or circumstance, afraid of where the truthful rhythms of your voice could take you. But what would happen if you let your voice say the things they need to say? What would happen if you let out your roar?⠀
707715270771522018-07-07I first stumbled across BlytheHill on a rabbit trail TED Talk binge & was so inspired by her story of choosing to DO something about sex trafficking using her own unique set of skills. What started out as a style challenge, grew into Dressember: an awareness & fundraisign campaign that is making an incredible impact. ❤️ Today, we get to peek into her mypursestory!

2574597892574597892018-07-06“CLOTHES AREN’T GOING TO CHANGE THE WORLD...THE WOMEN WHO WEAR THEM WILL”. ~ Anne Klein
It is such an incredible privilege to live in a country in which I can choose who, where, when and why I purchase clothing. And with the understanding of how MASSIVE THIS FACTORS IS...I choose to support companies, brands and fashion creators that work hard to produce ethical, sustainable, and do-good products and clothing that I can be PROUD to rep.
So many harmful, inhumane acts are enabled and attached to the fashion industry including:
•And COUNTLESS ACTS of Child Trafficking
These actions must be stopped! And it is time for fashion influencers to boldly support ethicalfashion globally!🌎
In this photo above, I am repping a local slow fashion vintage brand: laretrogirl
