I want to pass along something I am a big believer in- going lower carb during the Holidays to help offset fat gain. In a nutshell, I like to see people reduce their carbs to pre and post workout only (and intra workout if you are doing carbs there too) and at the other meals having protein and fats. Here's an example:
meal 1- protein carb
meal 2 protein carb
meal 3 protein carb
meal 4 protein carb
meal 5 protein carb
meal 6 protein fat
Change to Low Carb:
meal 1- protein fat
meal 2- protein fat
meal 3- protein carb
meal 4- protein carb
meal 5- protein fat
meal 6- protein fat
Dont drop your calories, just lower carbs and increase fats.
I know the smarty pants out there are going to say "John that's not proven to cause better fat loss!" and to them I say ok, fine, but that's not what I am saying. LOWERING CARBS means you can deplete muscle glycogen stores to be able to eat more carbs when you have bigger feedings/carb ups/shit fests. :)
This is also the time when you can work on resetting insulin sensitivity some during the offseason and take a break of pounding carbs and give insulin receptors a break. -
Combine lowering carbs with high rep workouts for 2-3 days before your next big holiday meal and you are depleted enough that when you eat more carbs you have more room to store them in the muscle versus the fat cells.
I will be giving a complete protocol later this week to use for next week's Thanksgiving festivities from workouts, depletion, GDA's and more.
