816998060281699806022018-10-12We’ve probably all heard this quote before or at least heard one like it. But do we believe it? Like really believe it? Because I didn’t.
There are dozens of things that I’ve doubted my capabilities on but my fitness capabilities have always been an area of huge doubt for me. I never have been a fit person. There have been a few times where I looked like I might be fit because I was skinny (by unmaintainable measures) but I assure you I have never been fit. I even once had a personal trainer at the gym who I saw twice a week. Even she couldn’t pull the fitness out of me and by the end of our 3 months together she wasn’t even having me work out anymore and we used my sessions for stretching instead. I once did a neighborhood 5k and was so winded by the time the race course passed my house that I left the race and went inside to crash on the couch with a mile left to go in the race. I have had so many gym memberships that sat unused that my husband has forbidden me from ever getting another one. I owned a yoga mat for years before I ever used it even one time. I paid for and enrolled in a fitness class that I never went to a single time. Know what the problem was? I never truly thought I could do it. I never felt like I could be one of those people who could workout regularly. I genuinely thought it was beyond my capabilities to get in shape and be healthy. But now I see that I was wrong! I am totally capable of getting healthy and fit. I began regularly exercising in mid July, started doing Beachbody workouts in mid-August and now in just mid-October, I’m regularly working out 6 days a week. I’m in better shape than I’ve been in as long as I can remember and I am so much stronger both physically and mentally. I still have a long way until I reach my goal but I no longer doubt my ability to reach that goal. I am totally capable and totally gonna do it.
