Eat “Bulky” to Slim Down. Choosing “big” and bulky foods such as fruits, vegetables, soups, and salads will fill you up without packing a lot of calories.
They have more fiber and will make you feel fuller, longer.
Here are some tips to help you maximize your veggie intake and weightloss.
Tip 1 - Ensure you are eating nutrient-dense, dark colored vegetables with each meal!
These naturally contain less sugar than fruit and should be eaten regularly.
Tip 2 - Eat your starchy veggies in your meal directly AFTER your workout.
This pushes them to replace the energy you used from your muscles during your workout rather than storing them as fat. (Note: I prefer this more towards an evening workout.) Tip 3 - Salad First!
Researchers from Penn State recently found that people who ate a veggie salad before eating their main course, ate fewer overall calories than those who did not eat a first-course salad. (Note) Make sure you watch your sauces and cream volume you add, as the calories can add up fast.
Tip 4 - When dining out, ask for extra vegetables.
This is a great weight loss strategy to help you get full on veggies instead of bread or other unhealthy foods.
It's reccommended that active women get 4-6 fists of veggies per day and active men should aim for 6-8 fists per day.
